This 1966 Thunderbird has a very solid body with almost no rust. The quarters were replaced with donor panels because the originals on this car had been modified and it was easier to replace them than to unmodify them.
The inside of the quarter panels and the inner fenders were painted with POR15 and then sprayed with undercoating before the quarter panels are installed.
The quarter panel is welded in and then the old paint is stripped off.
Working with the car on a rotisserie makes the job much easier. Body filler and high build have been applied and the quarters and rockers are ready for block sanding.
Other parts were sandblasted while the the areas that could not be sandblasted due to warping were chemically stripped. Some panels on this car had been painted four times during its life.
A part of the trunk brace had been cut out at some point in the car's history. A donor piece from another trunk was welded in.
Some areas on the backside of the hood were rusted. After cutting out those areas patches were made and welded in.
Again at some point in history the hood had been sandblasted causing severe warpage of the panel. After heat shrinking the metal close to the original position body filler was applied to level the panel. High build primer is applied after an application of epoxy direct to metal primer.
